Miss South Africa is a national beauty pageant in South Africa.

History
Miss South Africa (or a runner-up in some instances) has always competed at Miss World, but the first Miss South Africa to compete at Miss Universe was Kerishnie Naicker in 1998. The reigning Miss South Africa is Ntandoyenkosi Kunene, she will represent South Africa at Miss World 2016.
Prior to 1998, South Africa's representatives at Miss Universe qualified via other national pageants.
Miss South Africa runners-up do not compete at any international pageants.
Three Miss South Africas, namely, Rolene Strauss, Anneline Kriel and Penelope Coelen have won the Miss World titles in 2014, 1974 and 1958 respectively.
Big Four pageants
The following women have represented South Africa in three of the Big Four major international beauty pageants for women. These are Miss World, Miss Universe, Miss International with exception of Miss Earth which holds a separate national beauty pageant in South Africa.
Miss Universe South Africa
Between 1952 and 1997 the winner of Miss RSA (Republic of South Africa) contest used to represent South Africa at the Miss Universe. In 1998 the Miss South Africa took over the franchise to the main winner of Miss South Africa. On occasion, when the winner does not qualify (due to age) for either contest, a contestant is sent.
Miss World South Africa
The winner of Miss South Africa represents her country at the Miss World. On occasion, when the winner does not qualify (due to age), another contestant is sent. Sometimes the 1st Runner-up will compete at the Miss World pageant.
