Miriam Cabessa was born in Morocco and grew up in Israel. She lives and works in New York City since 2000 and has shown in the United States, Europe and Israel. Her education includes: Cultural Studies at Camera Obscura School for the Arts, Tel Aviv, Israel (1997–98). Ha’Midrasha College of Art, Ramat HaSharon, Israel (1990–92 ). Kalisher College of Art, Tel Aviv, Israel (1988–89). Cabessa represented Israel at the 1997 Venice Biennale. She is known for her meditative "slow action painting", using her body and objects like combs, squeegees and keffiyeh and tallit headdresses to apply paint to the canvas.
