Ryan Cordell
Ryan Thomas Cordell (born March 31, 1992) is an American professional baseball outfielder in the Milwaukee Brewers organization.
Cordell played college baseball at Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia. He was drafted by the Texas Rangers in the 11th round of the 2013 MLB draft. He began playing in the Rangers' organization in 2013, posting a .248 batting average with the Spokane Indians.
In 2014, Cordell started the baseball season with the Hickory Crawdads and was later promoted to the Myrtle Beach Pelicans in late August of that year. Prior to the 2015 season, he was converted from an outfielder to shortstop. He started the 2015 season with the High Desert Mavericks and was moved mid-season to finish with the Texas Rangers' AA affiliate Frisco RoughRiders, transferring back to outfield and utility player status. After the 2015 season, Cordell was brought up as a reserve batter for the Rangers' AAA affiliate Round Rock Express championship series in September 2015.
In 2016, Cordell began the season with the Frisco RoughRiders, where he posted two grand slams in the first 13 games of the season, to join Bryce Harper of the Washington Nationals as one of only two players in professional baseball to net two grand slams in the first 3 weeks of the 2016 season, a feat which garnered him MILB Texas League Player of the Month for April 2016.
Cordell was acquired by the Milwaukee Brewers on September 5, 2016 as the player to be named later from the August 1, 2016 trade for Jonathan Lucroy and Jeremy Jeffress. Cordell finished 2016 with a .264 batting average with 19 home runs and 70 RBI's. The Brewers added him to their 40-man roster after the season.
Marcos Diplan
Marcos Antonio Diplan Guzmán (born September 18, 1996) is a Dominican professional baseball pitcher for the Milwaukee Brewers' organization.
The Texas Rangers signed Diplan as an international free agent in 2013, receiving a $1.3 signing bonus. He pitched for the Dominican Rangers of the Dominican Summer League during the 2014 season, where he had a 7-2 win–loss record, a 1.54 earned run average, and 57 strikeouts in 64 1⁄3 innings pitched. On January 19, 2015, the Rangers traded Diplan, Luis Sardiñas, and Corey Knebel to the Milwaukee Brewers for Yovani Gallardo.
Mauricio Dubón
Mauricio Andre Dubón [doo-bone'] (born July 19, 1994) is a professional baseball shortstop in the Milwaukee Brewers organization. Listed at 6' 0" [1.83 m]. 160 lb. [73 k], he bats and throws right handed.
Dubón was born and grew up in Honduras, where he attended a bilingual school. After a Christian baseball mission group visited Honduras when he was 15, Dubón had to work harder to get attention on the field. The Capital Christian High School saw Dubón play, and asked him if he wanted to come back to the United States with the group so he could hone his baseball skills while attending high school. Dubón moved to Sacramento, California, to attend Capital Christian as a foreign exchange student. He posted a .509 batting average (86-for-169) after his junior and senior year at Capital Christian High School, including 23 doubles, 14 triples, eight home runs and 81 RBI before being drafted by Boston. He was ranked by Baseball America as the best defensive player among the 2013 Red Sox draft picks.
The Red Sox selected Dubón in the 26th round of the 2013 MLB Draft. After batting .245 in 20 games for the GCL Red Sox shortly after signing, Dubón was promoted to the Lowell Spinners in 2014 and ranked among the best ten in the New York–Penn League with a .320 batting average (82-for-256).
For the Greenville Drive in 2015, Dubón hit .364 through his first 11 games and had hit safely in 10 of those contests. He finished the season with High-A Salem Red Sox of the Carolina League, hitting a combined .288/.349/.376 slash line with 30 stolen bases in 120 games during the two stints. He then was invited by the Boston Red Sox to participate on its 2016 spring training.
Dubón continued his development at Salem in 2016, earning a spot in the Carolina League All-Star team to play in the 2016 California-Carolina League All-Star Game. He was promoted to Double-A Portland Sea Dogs following his appearance in the All-Star Game. At the time of his promotion, Dubón had a .306/.387/.379 line over 238 at-bats with a good approach producing more walks (33) than strikeouts (25). The .306 average was good for third in the Carolina League, and the on-base percentage ranked sixth. Besides, his speed has also continued to be a huge part of his game, stealing 24 bases in 28 attempts, for the sixth best in the league.
At Double-A, Dubón improved his slash line to .339/.371/.538 over 62 games with Portland, including 23 multi-hits games, six home runs and 40 RBI. Overall, he hit .323/.379/.461 with 101 runs, 69 RBI and 30 stolen bases in the two stints. Besides, he led the Red Sox minors system in runs and hits (157), while his .323 average was the second-best to Aneury Tavárez (.330). In addition, he finished third in stolen bases behind Yoan Moncada (45) and Danny Mars (31) and sixth in RBI. He then was selected to join the Surprise Saguaros of the Arizona Fall League during the postseason.
On December 6, 2016, the Red Sox traded Dubón, Travis Shaw, and Josh Pennington to the Milwaukee Brewers for Tyler Thornburg.
Lucas Erceg
Lucas Erceg (born May 1, 1995) is an American professional baseball third baseman in the Milwaukee Brewers organization.
Erceg attended Westmont High School in Campbell, California. He played college baseball at the University of California, Berkeley in 2014 and 2015 and was named first team All-Pac-12 in 2015. Prior to the 2016 season he was ruled academically ineligible and transferred to Menlo College. After one year at Menlo, he was drafted by the Milwaukee Brewers in the second round of the 2016 Major League Baseball Draft.
Erceg made his professional debut with the Helena Brewers and was promoted to the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers after hitting .400 over 26 games. Erceg finished his first professional season with a .327 batting average with 9 home runs and 51 RBI's.
Jake Gatewood
Jake Jacob Gatewood (born September 25, 1995) is an American professional baseball shortstop in the Milwaukee Brewers organization.
Gatewood attended Clovis High School in Clovis, California. He was the winner of the junior Home Run Derby at Citi Field on July 15, 2013.
Gatewood at one point was considered a potential top overall pick in the 2014 Major League Baseball Draft. He ended up getting drafted by the Milwaukee Brewers 41st overall in the draft. He signed on June 14, and was assigned to the AZL Brewers, where he posted a .206 batting average with 3 home runs and 32 RBI's. Gatewood spent 2015 with both the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers and the Helena Brewers, where he batted .244 with 10 home runs and 57 RBI's in 109 games. In 2016, Gatewood spent the whole season with the Timber Rattlers, where he batted .240 with 14 home runs and 64 RBI's.
Hobbs Johnson
Jeffrey Hobbs Johnson (born April 29, 1991) is an American professional baseball pitcher in the Milwaukee Brewers' organization.
Johnson attended Rocky Mount High School in Rocky Mount, North Carolina, graduating in 2010. He enrolled at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC), where he played college baseball for the UNC Tar Heels baseball team. The Milwaukee Brewers selected Johnson in the 14th round of the 2013 MLB Draft. Johnson signed with the Brewers, and reported to the Helena Brewers of the Rookie-level Pioneer League.
In 2014, Johnson pitched for the Brevard County Manatees of the Class A-Advanced Florida State League. Johnson began the 2015 season with the Biloxi Shuckers of the Class AA Southern League.
Gilbert Lara
Gilbert Lara Peguero (born October 30, 1997) is a Dominican professional baseball shortstop for the Milwaukee Brewers' organization.
The Brewers signed Lara for a $3.1 million signing bonus. Lara made his professional debut with the Arizona Brewers of the Rookie-level Arizona League in 2015, and he was promoted to the Helena Brewers in August. Lara ended 2015 with a .240 batting average, with 1 home run and 30 RBI's in 63 games. Lara returned to Helena for the whole 2016 season where he batted .250 with 2 home runs and 28 RBI's.
Jacob Nottingham
Jacob Andrew Nottingham (born April 3, 1995) is an American professional baseball catcher in the Milwaukee Brewers organization.
Nottingham was drafted by the Houston Astros in the sixth round of the 2013 Major League Baseball Draft out of Redlands High School in Redlands, California. He made his professional debut that year with the Gulf Coast Astros. In 2014, he played for the Greeneville Astros and he started 2015 with the Quad Cities River Bandits. Prior to the 2015 trade deadline, the Astros traded Nottingham and Daniel Mengden to the Oakland Athletics for Scott Kazmir.
In February 2016, the Athletics traded Nottingham and Bubba Derby to the Milwaukee Brewers for Khris Davis. Nottingham spent 2016 with the Biloxi Shuckers where he hit .234 with 11 home runs and 37 RBI's. After the season, the Brewers assigned Nottingham to the Salt River Rafters of the Arizona Fall League.
Nate Orf
Nathan Orf (born February 1, 1990) is an American professional baseball designated hitter in the Milwaukee Brewers organization
Orf played college baseball at Baylor University. He was signed as an undrafted free agent by the Milwaukee Brewers in 2011.
On August 31, 2014, when he was playing for the Brevard County Manatees, Orf played all nine positions in a game against the Dunedin Blue Jays. He became the first Manatee to ever play all nine positions. The next day, on September 1, Orf was called up to the Huntsville Stars for the playoffs.
Wendell Rijo
Wendell Roel Rijo [ree'-ho] (born September 5, 1995) is a Dominican second baseman in the Milwaukee Brewers organization. Listed at 5' 11", 170 lb., he bats and throws right handed.
Rijo was signed by the Boston Red Sox as an international free agent in March 2012 and joined immediately the Gulf Coast League Red Sox. Primarily a shortstop, he moved to second base after making his professional debut.
Rijo showed very good contact skills as a 17-year-old for the rookie-level GCL Red Sox, despite being one of the youngest regulars in the league. He posted team-highs in runs (28), hits (46), doubles (15), RBI (20), and stolen bases (15), while collecting a .271 batting average with a .368 on-base percentage in 40 games. His season was punctuated by a solid 16-game stretch in July, during which he hit a .415/.508/.585 slash line with nine doubles and nine walks, while slashing .299/.373/.416 in his final 43 games. His GCL efforts were enough to merit a three-game stint with Class Short-Season A Lowell Spinners in September, and he went 5-for-14 with one double and a triple, as well as at least one hit in each game.
In 2014 Rijo joined the Low A Greenville Drive, where he hit .254/.348/.416 in 111 games, including 56 runs, 46 RBI and 16 stolen bases, gaining a promotion to the High A Salem Red Sox in 2015. He finished the year with a .260/.324/.381 line along with 47 RBI and 15 steals in 108 games, to complete two full seasons in the organization.
Rijo was promoted to Double A Portland Sea Dogs in 2016 and rejoined Salem during the midseason.
On July 7, 2016, the Red Sox traded Rijo and Aaron Wilkerson to the Milwaukee Brewers for Aaron Hill. Rijo finished 2016 with a .202 batting average and a .530 OPS.
Forrest Snow
Forrest Evans Snow (born December 30, 1988) is an American professional baseball pitcher in the Milwaukee Brewers organization.
After graduating from Lakeside School in Seattle, Snow was drafted in the 44th round of the 2007 Major League Baseball Draft by the Seattle Mariners, however, he decided to play college baseball at the University of Washington. He saw limited field time in his freshman year. In 2008, Snow made only 6 appearances and finished 1-0 with a 3.52 ERA and 10 strikeouts. In 2009, he made 13 appearances, including 3 starts, and finished 1-0 with a 5.81 ERA and 31 strikeouts. In 2010, Snow made 27 appearances, including 9 starts, and finished 4-2 with a 6.30 ERA and 60 strikeouts.
In 2010, Snow was drafted again by the Mariners in the 2010 Major League Baseball Draft and signed with the club on June 14. Snow spent time with the Everett AquaSox and the Clinton LumberKings in 2010. He went a combined 0-1 with a 0.60 ERA and 52 strikeouts.
In 2013, he was suspended 50 games by the MLB for violating the substance abuse policy. In December 2016, Snow signed a minor league contract with the Milwaukee Brewers.
Tyrone Taylor
Tyrone A. Taylor (born January 22, 1994) is an American professional baseball center fielder in the Milwaukee Brewers organization.
Taylor was drafted by the Milwaukee Brewers in the second round of the 2012 Major League Baseball Draft out of Torrance High School in Torrance, California. He had signed to play college baseball at California State University, Fullerton, but signed with the Brewers instead. He made his professional debut that year for the Helena Brewers and also played for the Arizona League Brewers. In 75 at-bats over 18 games, he hit .387/.434/.667 with two home runs. He played the 2013 season with the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers. In 122 games, he hit .274/.338/.400 with eight home runs in 485 at-bats. Prior to the 2014 season, he was ranked by Baseball America as the Brewers second best prospect. He started the season with the Brevard County Manatees. On April 29, 2014, Tyrone Taylor hit for the cycle against the Clearwater Threshers on his mother's 35th birthday. It was the first cycle in Brevard County Manatees history.
Daniel Tillman
Daniel Brett Tillman (born March 14, 1989) is an American professional baseball pitcher currently in the Milwaukee Brewers organization. He previously played with Los Angeles Angels and Los Angeles Dodgers minor league teams. He attended Florida Southern College.
Tillman was selected with the 81st overall pick in the 2010 Major League Baseball draft by the Los Angeles Angels. On June 20, 2010, the Angels officially signed Tillman, and the next day he was assigned to the Orem Owlz. In 22 games there, he posted a 1.95 ERA and earned 10 saves in 32 1/3 innings pitched. On April 4, 2011, he was promoted to the then Angels Class A affiliate, the Cedar Rapids Kernels. In 66 1/3 innings pitched there, he collected a 2.04 ERA and 12 saves in 15 opportunities. On August 18, 2011, he was promoted to the Advanced-A team, the Inland Empire 66ers. In seven appearances, Tillman went two-for-two in saves, won one game, and struck out eight batters. On March 26, 2014, the 66ers and Angels released Tillman. The Los Angeles Dodgers signed Tillman to a minor-league deal on April 2, 2014. With Advanced A Rancho Cucamonga Quakes and Double AA Tulsa Drillers, his won-loss record was 1-4, and compiled a 2.76 ERA in 48 relief appearances with seven saves. On November 6, 2015, Tillman elected his free agency and was later signed by the Milwaukee Brewers to a minor-league deal on December 14, 2015.
Brandon Woodruff
Brandon Kyle Woodruff (born February 10, 1993) is an American professional baseball pitcher in the Milwaukee Brewers organization.
Woodruff attended Wheeler High School in Wheeler, Mississippi and was drafted by the Texas Rangers in the fifth round of the 2011 Major League Baseball Draft out of high school. He did not sign with the Rangers and attended Mississippi State University to play college baseball. After his junior year he was drafted by the Milwaukee Brewers in the 11th round of the 2014 MLB Draft.
Woodruff made his professional debut with the Helena Brewers. He pitched 2015 with the Brevard County Manatees and started 2016 there. In May he was promoted to the Biloxi Shuckers. In July his brother died following an ATV accident. In his first start since his death, Woodruff threw six shutout innings allowing one hit with nine strikeouts. Woodruff ended 2016 with a 14-9 record and a 2.68 ERA.
