Mike Weinholtz was the Democratic candidate in the 2016 election for Governor of Utah.

Biography

Weinholtz was a third generation factory worker in the Chevrolet factory in Buffalo, NY. He attended night school while working full-time. He received his Bachelor of Science in management from Canisius College, Buffalo, NY, and a Bachelor of Arts in business administration from Eckerd College, St. Petersburg, FL.

Weinholtz served as President of CHG Healthcare Services from 1998 to 2012, and CEO from 1998 to January, 2015. In 2014, Utah business magazine named him a CEO of the year. He serves on the board of directors for the United Way of Salt Lake, the Women's Leadership Institute of Utah and the ACLU of Utah. He is also a member of the Promise Partnership Regional Council for Education.

Political career

Weinholtz was prompted to run by what he saw as a lack of leadership and accountability on Capitol Hill, stemming from the Republican Party's dominance of state government. He was elected as the Democratic nominee for governor at the Utah Democratic Convention on April 23, 2016, defeating Vaughn R Cook with eighty percent of the delegate vote

Political positions

Weinholtz is in favor of full Medicaid expansion, state employee health programs, and increased access to preventative care He wants to raise teacher salaries and support public schools. He supports raising the minimum wage.
