Mike Kungl

Mike Kungl is an American painter of Disney Fine Art who has also worked as a graphic designer on many multinational advertising campaigns for companies like Panasonic, Johnson & Johnson, Toshiba, Sony, Warner Bros. Television and Bank of America.

After completing art and design school M Kungl applied his graphic design education to achieve a successful career in advertising. After two decades creating award winning graphics, logos, package design and illustration he focused on fine art full time. Kungl never suspected that success on one coast would lead to recognition on another. Within just two years the California artist was selected to create the official artwork for Miami Beach's 25th annual Art Deco Weekend. The Miami honor is just one of many in a succession of developments that highlight Kungl's growing reputation as fine artist. He is becoming one of the premiere collectible artists across the country and around the world. Not only is he one of the top Star Wars artists, he is now creating inspired Warner Bros. image. Of course his Disney art is highly collectible too! Kungl's works are continuing to rise in popularity throughout Europe, Japan and Australia. His work is featured regularly in magazine articles, how to books and television shows. Big Bang Theory features his art regularly, which has expanded interest in his work dramatically to the larger public. His art has been featured on Ashton Kutcher's "Beauty and The Geek". The show is filmed in an Art Deco house lined with over thirty M Kungl creations. WB has also featured his "MotoAutoBahn" piece prominently on the set of Gilmore Girls.

One of Kungl's biggest accomplishments to date you will find at the World of Disney, Paris. Kungl was commissioned to create ten spectacular Art Deco panoramas that line the perimeter of the store. He is also responsible for eight bas-relief artworks which are visible around the exterior of the store. [1]

Style

Mike has come a long way since when he used to use the family sofa as his canvas and his mother's lipstick as his paint, but even then he knew he wanted to be an artist. Nowadays, he paints on canvas and admits to spending an inordinate amount of time designing the piece before actually beginning to paint it. So therefore, it is a prerequisite that he be very much excited about whatever it is he's working on:

“I strive to produce work that I’m personally going to have fun designing and painting. Therefore when it’s complete my goal is having the

audience be just as entertained looking at it as I was creating it.”

He also uses chrome and metallic elements to lend his paintings a certain Art Deco feel. He's mastered this technique so well that in 2002,

Mike Kungl was given the honor of creating the official artwork for Miami Beach's 25th Annual Art Deco Weekend.^[5]

Kungl is known for taking the characters and putting his fun twist on them. In 2007 the Orlando Sentinel was quick to praise him for pulling it off!

Personal life

Kungl was born in Los Angeles, CA February 1.

He currently resides in Southern California.
