Community player of the year (2003–present)

aka John Ovington Community Player of the Year

Evening Gazette player of the year

Also known as the Evening Gazette's "Star Man". The award went to Boateng, Greening, Southgate and Ince in the years prior to Downing in 2005.

North East player of the year

In 1989, the Hennessy North East Player of [the] Year award. Since 2002, has been the Prince's Trust North East Player of the Year.

North East young player of the year

Since 2002, has been the Prince's Trust North East Young Player of the Year.

North East Football Writers' player of the year (1980–present)

Bryan 'Pop' Robson won the award for Sunderland, year unknown. Kevin Keegan and Peter Beardsley both won the award prior to 2004. David Armstrong, Jim Platt, Tony Mowbray, Stephen Pears, Juninho Paulista and Paul Merson all won the award for Middlesbrough since 1980.
