Mission statement
The purpose of the MTFL is to provide a setting for adults wishing to continue participating in contact football at the recreational level. It also offers opportunities for individuals to play the game who might be unfamiliar with the sport, or just curious about it.
History
The league was founded in 2001 with just three teams: The Lebanon Hitmen, The Nashville Knights, and the Goodlettsville Infernos. The league grew to eight teams by 2006. The MTFL originally played 8-man football, then 9-man after the first year, before making the shift to 11-man in 2008. Due to the 2008 shift (specifically the increased numbers that were required to maintain a team) the MTFL was forced to drop to six teams in 2008 and now stands at four teams with the Franklin Generals [1] returning in 2010. 2011 is looking to be an exciting year as the league has seen two new teams join the MTFL. The Middle Tn. Vipers and the Giles Co. Monsters come into the MTFL with high hope on becoming the leagues first ever new team to win the MTFL Championship. This however will not be an easy task as the three time defending Champions along with the other core teams have re-loaded their roster's and are all ready to make a run at the 2011 MTFL Title.
The MTFL 2011 ended with an exciting championship game between the three-time defending champion Lebanon Hitmen and the Franklin Generals. This would be only the second time that the Generals would play in the Championship game with their last appearance against the Sumner County Xpress in 2007. The generals lost that game in 2007 but would not be denied in 2011 as they defeat the Lebanon Hitmen 7-0 in what some call the best championship game to date. 2012 the league would welcome the Bowling Green Blaze to the league. It would also feature the defending champion Franklin Generals, The Lebanon Hitmen, Metro Lawdawgs, and the Middle Tennessee Vipers. The 2012 MTFL Championship would be a rematch from 2011 but this time the Generals would easily take home the crown becoming only the second team in MTFL history to repeat as champions.Championship History

Defunct Teams/Names
As the seasons have progressed many teams within the MTFL have changed location, names, or simply folded. Through the numerous changes three teams have managed to keep their core personnel: The Lebanon Hitmen (Donelson Green Machine), the Metro Law Dawgs, and the Sumner County Xpress (White House Bruisers). The Hitmen and the Xpress held the oldest rivalry until 2009 when a lack of management forced the Xpress to fold, with the majority of the team joining with their former rivals the Lebanon Hitmen leaving just the Law-Hitmen rivalry.
