Biography

He holds a Ph.D. in economics from Harvard University.

In 2004, he was chief economist at BusinessWeek.

On March 24, 2007, he spoke at the Startup School at Stanford University. On March 25, 2008, he spoke at the Coastal Georgia Center in Savannah, Georgia, and on March 26 at Georgia Southern University in Statesboro, Georgia. He spoke concerning "What's next for the economy?" In the same year he wrote for Der Spiegel.

He is currently chief economic strategist of the Progressive Policy Institute, president of consulting firm South Mountain Economics LLC.

Publications

Mandel is the author of a number of books. Mandel has written a basic economics textbook for McGraw-Hill. He resides in Takoma Park, MD, and has two children. His oldest son is named Elliot.
