The Methodist University of Piracicaba (Portuguese: Universidade Metodista de Piracicaba) also known as Unimep is a Brazilian private higher learning institution located in the state of São Paulo. The university offers teaching, research and outreach activities in diverse knowledge areas. Unimep was founded in 1964 and was granted university status in 1975, being the first Methodist university in Latin America.

The institution is kept by Instituto Educacional Piracicabano (IEP) and has four campi, two of them located at Piracicaba, one at Santa Bárbara d'Oeste and one at Lins.

In 2015, Guia do Estudante, a Brazilian publication evaluated 26 of 50 Unimep undergraduate courses and ranked one of them as 5-star (highest grade), 12 as 4-star and 10 as 3-star, totalizing 23 ranked courses. A 2014 report by the National Institute of Educational Studies and Researches (INEP) and the Ministry of Education, Unimep was ranked with a IGC (Índice Geral de Cursos- General Course Index) of 2,685 (from a scale from 0 to 5000) and at the 3 range (from 1 to 5)

History

The history of Unimep dates back to 1881, when American missionary Martha Watts founded in Piracicaba the first Methodist school of Brazil, Colégio Piracicabano. In 1964, the school started to offer higher education courses in Economy, Administration and Accounting, referred as Integrated Faculties. With that expansion, in 1975, the Ministry of Education recognized Unimep as a university.
