Overview

The show was developed by Squint/Opera, a London CG studio who set up Doodle Productions devoted to making the TV series. It was financed and produced by Jules Coke and Genevieve Dexter. It features the voices of Adam Buxton, Kate Harbour, Shelley Longworth and Rob Rackstraw.

The series features a combination of live action and 3D and 2D animation. It has international distribution by DHX Media and will be broadcast in several different countries. Messy Monster began life as a much-loved hand-drawn character dreamed up by artist Rachel Ortas (co-founder of the science based Okido Magazine), and has been re-created in CGI. Messy finds the answers to everything a 3–5 year old child would want to know, with his best friends Zoe and Felix. The brave trio fly to the moon, shrink to the size of atoms and ride on the backs of giant butterflies! The show brings science to life using stories, comedy and adventure.

In 2016 the show won Best Sound Design at the Music + Sound Awards.

Messy

Messy is a furry monster who lives under a bed. Messy is very clumsy and likes pressing buttons, which often gets the other characters in trouble. His favourite catch phrases are "Balabalaboomboom!" and "Let's Ski-doodle oki-doodle!". Whenever there is something Messy needs to know, like why things fall down or some things float and others don't, he travels to the world of Okido to find out. Messy loves eating green socks and sandwiches.

Zoe

Zoe is a girl who loves to go on adventures with her brother Felix and Messy. Zoe doesn't like being late or getting lost and she likes to jump in first. Zoe loves gadgets, her favourite is her communications watch which she uses to speak with Zim, Zam and Zoom. Zoe lives in the Okido house with Felix.

Felix

Felix is a boy who loves using his imagination, he is very organised and always packs his rucksack with useful things before going on an adventure. Felix lives in the Okido house with his sister Zoe.

Zim

Zim is a talking computer who knows lots about science, he is full of big ideas. Zim works in the ZZZ Tower with Zam and Zoom. Zim is not very good at practical things like reading maps and this often leads to disagreements with Zam. Whenever Zim gets confused his screen starts buffering.

Zam

Zam is a triangle-shaped engineer who is brilliant at fixing things. She works in the ZZZ Tower with Zim. She is quite bossy and sometimes tells Zim off if he is getting in the way. Zam uses her tools to make all kinds of gadgets and vehicles. Zam also loves doing experiments, particularly when they blow up.

Zoom

Zoom is Zim and Zam's lab assistant. Zoom can morph into any shape they want as long as it is not bigger than their body. This is very useful when the Okido gang are on an adventure. Zoom doesn't speak but can make noises.
