Merseybank is a small council estate located 4 miles south of Manchester city centre, England, within the suburb of Chorlton-cum-Hardy. It was built between 1927 and 1932 and has many types of housing typical of those built in the late 1920s by Manchester Corporation.

Amenities

In the centre of the estate there is a parade of shops, including a newsagents, Select and Save shop, a pharmacy, Chinese takeaway, a Tandoori takeaway, a convenience store and used to have a Post Office and a butcher's shop. At the southernmost part of the estate, there is a field that has been used for hockey and cricket matches but is now merely a recreation area that has three play parks. Along the south side of the field flows the River Mersey.

Current situation

Through the years, many of the council houses have been sold to private owners. The remaining council properties have recently been bought by Southway Housing Trust which has taken upon itself their improvement and renovation.

The shopping parade has been the subject of plans to do with renovation and modernisation of the area. An organic cafe is planned for the old butcher's shop on the parade.

Recently, plans for a 3 storey complex composing of apartments, a library and a brand new community centre were submitted to Manchester City Council. As of May 2015, a new 3-storey building has been built and is successful.
