The Mercury Sable is a sister model to the Ford Taurus marketed by Mercury for model years 1986-2005 as a mid-size car and 2008-2009 as a full size car. The Sable shared all mechanical components with the Taurus, and offered the same powertrains and similar options to the Taurus, while having a unique body and more upscale interior. Along with the Taurus, the Sable was a highly influential vehicle in the marketplace, with a total of 2,112,374 sold from 1985-2005. The Sable was sold through five unique generations:
