"Memories" is a popular song with music by Egbert Van Alstyne and lyrics by Gus Kahn, published in 1915.

The song has become a pop standard, recorded by many people over the years. John Barnes Wells may have made the first recording in 1916. Henry Burr also did a recording in 1916, as Harry McClaskey. The 1940 motion picture "It All Came True" featured a version by the Lady Killers Quartet.

Bing Crosby recorded the song in 1947 and George Morgan recorded the song in 1957. It has been recorded by Mario Lanza.

The song was done by "Mitch Miller & The Gang" on their 1959 album, "Still More Sing Along With Mitch."

Progressive rock group Phish encored with this song 47 times throughout their illustrious career, often without the use of microphones to keep it in traditional settings.

Lyrics

(Egbert Van Alstyne /Gus Kahn)

Round me at twilight come stealingShadows of days that are goneDreams of the old days revealingMem'ries of love's golden dawnMemories, memoriesDreams of love so trueO'er the sea of memoryI'm drifting back to youChildhood days, wild wood daysAmong the birds and beesYou left me alone, but still you're my ownIn my beautiful memoriesSunlight may teach me forgettingNoonlight brings thoughts that are newTwilight brings sighs and regrettingMoonlight means sweet dreams of youMemories, memoriesDreams of love so trueO'er the sea of memoryI'm drifting back to youChildhood days, wild wood daysAmong the birds and beesYou left me alone, but still you're my ownIn my beautiful memories
