This is a list of the 51 members of Belfast City Council, elected at the local elections on 5 May 2011.

Electoral Wards

Belfast City Council currently comprises 60 electoral wards, nominally one for each elected councillor. However, as the PR-STV voting system requires multi-seat constituencies, the 60 wards are grouped into ten district electoral areas (DEA) which elect between five and seven councillors each:

Changes

  • Geraldine McAteer (Sinn Féin) replaced Máirtín Ó Muilleoir (Sinn Féin) for Balmoral following the latter's co-op into the NI Assembly. (29/10/2014).
  • Brian Kenendy (DUP) replaced Gavin Robinson (DUP) for Titanic following the latter's election to Westminster. (16/06/2015)
  • Donal Lyons (SDLP) replaced Claire Hanna (SDLP) for Balmoral following the latter's co-op into the NI Assembly. (28/07/2015)
  • Sian O'Neill (Alliance) replaced Laura McNamee for Ormiston following the latter's resignation. (01/09/15)
  • Séanna Walsh (Sinn Féin) replaced Bill Groves for Collin following the latter's resignation (14/09/15).
  • Ruth Patterson was expelled from the DUP and currently sits as an Independent (21/11/15).
  • Matthew Collins (PBPA) replaced Gerry Carroll (PBPA) following the latter's election to the NI Assembly (24/05/2016).
  • Mairéad O'Donnell (Sinn Féin) replaced Niall Ó Donnghaile (Sinn Féin) following the latter's election to the Irish Senate (26/05/2016).
  • Lee Reynolds (DUP) replaced Christopher Stalford (DUP) following the latter's election to the NI Assembly (27/05/2016).
  • Kate Nicholl (Alliance) replaced Paula Bradshaw (Alliance) following the latter's election to the NI Assembly (03/06/2016).
  • Graham Craig (UUP) joined the DUP (28/10/2016).
  • Aldermen

    The Local Government (Modification of Borough Charters) Order (Northern Ireland) 1973 entitles the Council to appoint up to twelve of its members to the honorary position of alderman. The role of alderman is appointed at the first annual meeting following the election of the Council and does not carry any extra responsibilities other than the right to be referred to as an alderman rather than councillor. Following the local elections in 1997 and 2005 the Council voted not to appoint any of its members to the positions.
