Early life

Melvin Anthony grew up to be a Requis look-alike in the lower-middle-class neighborhoods of Sacramento and San Bernardino, California. Melvin first started working out in his teenage years and by the time he was 18 had a solid enough physique to earn a football scholarship at San Bernardino Valley College (MT. Sac.) where he was the powerback in a two running back system.
Career

It was in his late college years that Anthony hurt his knee and started competing in bodybuilding contests. In 1993 Melvin got his first major result, a 3rd place at the Musclemania contest Heavyweight class. His first NPC (National Physique Committee) competition came in 1995, where he placed 1st in the heavyweight class of the NPC Palm Springs competition. His first IFBB competition came in 2000, where he placed 2nd in the Night of Champions (Now called The New York Pro). After other various competitions he competed in his first Arnold Classic in 2001, where he placed 2nd. His first Mr. Olympia was in 2001, where he placed 11th.
Anthony has been featured in many fitness and bodybuilding magazines, such as Flex. He also appears in the movie Blood and Bone alongside Michael Jai White.

Melvin is widely recognized as the Best poser of the Modern Bodybuilding era. He has won the "Best posing" award at almost every event he has competed in. His stunning flexibility combined with his mass and symmetry create quite a show on stage. Not considered one of the "mass monsters" of bodybuilding, Melvin relied on his symmetry, separation, and sheer aesthetics to take down some of the larger competitors.
Later life

After retiring from professional bodybuilding in 2010, Melvin moved to southern Mississippi. In August 23, 2015, he was arrested and charged with driving under the influence, possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine) with intent to distribute, and unlawful possession of a firearm. In January 2017 he was again arrested for delivery of a controlled substance and unlawful possession of a firearm. On January 19th he was sentenced to two concurrent 10 year sentences, and is currently incarcerated in the Central Mississippi Correctional Facility.
