After moving to the United States, the financial and diplomatic strains caused by the 444-day Hostage Crisis severed the family's support from Iran.

Business

In 1986, after several entrepreneurial endeavors on the East Coast, Ghafourifar moved to the San Francisco Bay Area and founded a venture which grew to become the largest B2B membership organization in Silicon Valley. The organization was later acquired by a public company in mid-2001.

Since 2003, Ghafourifar has served as the Chairman of Pillarton Corporation, a capital and management advisory services company based in Silicon Valley. Ghafourifar is also the Founder and CEO of Univetica, a social initiative with a vision of "a thriving global community" and a mission to help people improve their decision making skills.
