History

MealShare.org was founded in 2009 as a subsidiary of Shared Meals, LLC. spurred by what Evilsizor recognized as "an opportunity to improve the lives of anyone, anywhere", through the development of a Web 2.0 application. The website was the first to combine a walled garden approach to organizing ad hoc social gatherings oriented around a community of purpose. After initial success, the site expanded to create a portal for organizing potluck events and private engagements. As of 2012, the site has networks operating in more than 36 countries throughout the world.

Products and services

There are three services offered through MealShare.org. The first is a communal dinner, available to a defined subset of members of a user's meal network. The second is a private dinner party, available to anyone designated by the host. The third is a potluck, available to both a user's meal network as well as other individuals chosen by the host. The domain mealshare.org attracted more than 1500 unique visitors within an hour of launching, and was averaging 10,000 new unique members per month shortly thereafter. According to company press releases and media kits, the site has grown at an annualized rate of more than 25,000%.
