Mazhar Fuat Özkan

Mazhar-Fuat-Özkan (MFÖ) is a Turkish pop and rock band consisting of Mazhar Alanson, Fuat Güner and Özkan Uğur. While many of their songs poke fun at common Turkish types ("Ali Desidero", "Piskopatım") or satirise prejudice and corruption ("Deli Deli", "Rüşvet"), others are more spiritual in nature, showing their interest in Sufism ("Sufi", "Ateş-i Aşka").

In 1966, Mazhar Alanson and Fuat Güner were met, and started to work together. In 1971, they produced an album called "Türküz Türkü çağırırız". Later in the same year, Özkan Uğur joined the band and MFÖ officially established.

The trio represented Turkey in the Eurovision Song Contest twice; in 1985 in Gothenburg, Sweden they came 14th with Didai Didai Dai, and in 1988 in Dublin, Ireland, performing the song Sufi to finish in 15th place.

The group's founding story is that, in 1965 Mazhar Alanson saw The Beatles record in Fuat Güner 's hand and offered him to listen record together. This is how this two members met. Then, they started to play on a Turkish group called Kaygısızlar which include a well known Turkish musicians like Ali Serdar , Semih Oksay and Fikret Kızılok . After that, they started to work with Barış Manço . By this time, the third member of the group Özkan Uğur was working with the other musicians like Erkin Koray , Ersen ve Dadaşlar and a group Kurtalan Ekspres.

After Kaygısızlar, Mazhar Alanson and Fuat Güner recorded the only album of Mazhar-Fuat which is called tr:Türküz Türkü Çağırırız. However the album had not achieved a commercial success. After that, they formed the band İpucu Beşlisi Özkan Uğur, Ayhan Sicimoğlu and Galip Boransu. The band came apart and after some time playing music separately, Mazhar, Fuat and Özkan got together again and started accompanying famous Turkish singers such as Sezen Aksu, Ajda Pekkan and Seyyal Taner on stage.

Reputation In the list of the top 50 Turkish rock songs that is made by Blue Jean magazine, MFÖ was featured by the songs Mazeretim Var Asabiyim Ben and Ele Güne Karşı. They were ranked number 1 by the same magazine on the list of "All 5 Top Classic Rock Albums" . In 2003, MFÖ won the "Best Group" award at the Kral Video Music Awards. MFÖ has also been involved in many aid campaigns as well. Recently, they have participated in charity events especially on street animals, education, spinal cord paralysis. Sertab Erener, Gülben Ergen, Gripin, Hümeyra, Feridun Düzağaç and Sezen Aksu have interpreted MFÖ songs in their albums and concerts. Peter Murphy translated the song "Buselik Makamına" as "Big Love of a Tiny Fool" in English and put it on a studio album and a concert album.
