In 2016, Peterson, along with Guy Spier and Phil Town successfully petitioned the Bankruptcy Court in Delaware to form an Official Committee for the Equity Holders in the bankruptcy case of Horsehead Corporation.

Peterson is the founder and manager of Peterson Investment Fund I, an investment partnership inspired by, and styled after Warren Buffett's 1950s investment partnerships. He is regularly cited by and an occasional financial commentator in the media. Peterson is a regular speaker at the UCLA Anderson School of Management and his financial writings are widely published.

Peterson is a regular presenter at VALUEx Zurich/Kosters cohosted by Guy Spier and John Mihaljevic.

In 2015, Peterson was featured in the book "100 Baggers: Stocks That Return 100-to-1 and How To Find Them", by Christopher W. Mayer regarding his use of the Kelly Criterion, a mathematics based approach to portfolio position sizing, as part of his investment process.
