Matthew James "Matty" Godden (born 29 July 1991) is an English professional footballer who plays as a forward for Stevenage.

Career

Godden started his career at Scunthorpe United, his youth career was struck by injuries. He signed his first professional contract at the end of the 2008–09 season and soon on loan to Brigg Town, for three months, where he scored nine goals in 20 games. He later went on loan to Ilkeston Town. Godden was involved in Scunthorpe's 2009–10 pre-season. He was signed a year extension on 8 June 2010, despite not making an appearance for Scunthorpe. He made his debut during the 2010–11 season, on 22 September against Manchester United in the League Cup, coming on for Chris Dagnall. He made his league debut on 28 December 2010, in a 2–0 win over Burnley.

In March 2012 Godden joined Gainsborough Trinity on a one-month loan. He scored on his Gainsborough debut, scoring two minutes after coming off the bench in a 3–2 win against Nuneaton. In August 2012 he re-joined Trinity on a six month loan, but returned to Scunthorpe after just one month after picking up another injury, making four appearances but failing to score.

Following his injury he was subsequently loaned to Ebbsfleet United for one month on 8 November 2012. He scored on his Ebbsfleet debut, coming off the bench to score the winning goal in a 3–2 win against Hyde.

On 30 May 2014, he signed a two-year contract with Ebbsfleet United. He scored a second half hat-trick against Farnborough in November 2014. Godden scored a forty-yard volley at Bromley in March 2015, which turned out to be the winning goal in a 2–1 win. the 2015–16 season was Godden's most prolific, netting thirty goals in all competitions including four goals at Hayes & Yeading in a 5–0 win. His last goal for the club was the final goal in a 3–1 win against Chelmsford at Stonebridge Road.

On 7 June 2016, Godden joined League Two side Stevenage on a one-year deal after netting 47 times in 91 games for Ebbsfleet United.
