Matthew Arnold School is a coeducational secondary school and sixth form located just west of Oxford near Cumnor Hill and Botley and is named after 19th-century poet Matthew Arnold.

Contents

The school contains around 1,100 pupils from years 7 to 13.

Previously a community school administered by Oxfordshire County Council, in August 2015 Matthew Arnold School converted to academy status and is now sponsored by the West Oxford Schools Trust. However the school continues to coordinate with Oxfordshire County Council for admissions.

Housing System

There are five houses in the school, each of which are named after a famous person who was educated at Oxford University. For example, Bannister house is named after Roger Bannister, an English former athlete who ran the first sub-four minute mile.
