Matthew James Carthy (born 19 July 1977) is an Irish politician and Member of the European Parliament (MEP) from Ireland. He is a member of Sinn Féin, part of the European United Left–Nordic Green Left.

Originally from County Roscommon, he now lives in County Monaghan and was a member of Monaghan County Council from 2004 to 2014. Carthy was first elected as a member of Carrickmacross Town Council in 1999, and has served as Mayor of Carrickmacross. Carthy was elected as an MEP at the European Parliament election in May 2014 with 114,727 first-preference votes. He was a member of the Border Regional Authority.
