Sold. Departed Yokosuka destination the Marshall Islands on October 3rd 2015 towed by YTB-763. Under heavy seas YTB-807 took on too much water and the tow was cut at 1900 hours Japan time (location to be updated) YTB-807 sank at 1930 hours October 6th 2015. (no lives lost, YTB 763 arrived in the Marshall Islands on October 21st 2015)

Massapequa (YTB-807) was a United States Navy Natick-class large harbor tug named for Massapequa, New York.

Construction

The contract for Massapequa was awarded 4 March 1969. She was laid down on 30 October 1969 at Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin, by Peterson Builders and launched 27 May 1970.

Operational history

Delivered 30 November 1970, Massapequa served at Naval Station Yokosuka, Japan.

Stricken from the Navy List 27 September 2011, ex-Massapequa is to be sold.

Current status

As of 2 December 2014 the EX-Massapequa (YTB-807) is located in Yokosuka, Japan and is for sale through an online auction which is being hosted by the USA's General Services Administration. The opening bid of $1000 USD has not, as yet, been realized.
