The MSSRA begins

The MSSRA was founded in 1987 as an squash league. The league's inaugural year featured only thirty-two players and was generally regarded as a weak alternative to the far more respected NESLA.

In 1990, the NESLA declared bankruptcy and most of the players joined the MSSRA, without the competition from NESLA, the MSSRA became the premier squash association for elderly players in Massachusetts, be they professional players or amateurs.

Ranking system

The MSSRA uses a squash ranking system familiar to those who followed the NESLA and other squash organizations. Players are awarded points for their victories, point values are higher if a player defeats someone ranked above him and are lower if someone defeats a lower ranked player.
