Maryan Ainsworth is an art historian, author and curator specialising in 14th, 15th and 16th century Northern European painting, particularly in Early Netherlandish painting. She is currently an adjunct Professor of Art History with Columbia University, and curator of European paintings at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York.

Her 2011 exhibition "Man, Myth, and Sensual Pleasures: Jan Gossaert's Renaissance" featured 160 of Gossart's works, was a critical and public success, and was reproduced in London's National Gallery.
