Martin Haese is the Lord Mayor of the City of Adelaide in South Australia and he took over from Stephen Yarwood in 2014. He is an entrepreneur, educator and strong advocate for the City of Adelaide. Haese founded the Youthworksfashion chain in 1993 and built the business into a national chain of clothing, footwear and lifestyle stores which he sold in 2005.

Haese co-founded the Entrepreneurs' Organization in South Australia and later became the General Manager of the Rundle Mall Management Authority Management Authority, a subsidiary organisation of the City of Adelaide, from 2010 to 2013. As General Manager, Haese successfully launched public holiday trading and built the case for a AUD$30 million public realm upgrade. Rundle Mall is now South Australia’s premiere retail district with over 24 million visitors per annum .

From 2010 to 2014, Haese was the Chairman of the Bay to Birdwood the world’s largest historic motoring event. He has served on various boards including the Adelaide Convention Bureau holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) and was a guest lecturer for the University of Wollongong and the Australian Institute of Business for several years. Haese was also the national Chair of the Council of Capital City Lord Mayors in 2015 .

As Lord Mayor of Adelaide, Haese drives a strong economic and community development agenda.

Notable outcomes include a number of investment partnerships with the State Government of South Australia into improved laneways, tramways and bikeways projects.
Haese promotes strong sustainability and technology agendas culminating in the City of Adelaide’s Carbon Neutral Adelaide 2015 strategy, 10 Gig City and many Smart City initiatives. Haese was a speaker at the Paris COP21 in December 2015 and continues to advocate that addressing climate change is both an environmental necessity and an economic opportunity. Haese presides over the Council Chamber, the Adelaide Park Lands Authority and a number of boards and committees. As a musician, Haese widely promotes Adelaide as a UNESCO City of Music . Haese is married to Genevieve Theseira-Haese, a Singaporean born marketing and communications entrepreneur.
