Martin Canin is an American pianist who was on the faculty of the Juilliard School from 1976 to 2016. He was born in New York City and is a graduate of the Juilliard School where he studied under the eminent pedagogue Rosina Lhévinne. From 1959 to 1976 he was her assistant at Juilliard and also taught during that period at Teachers College, Columbia University. In 1965 he joined the faculty of Stony Brook University as Artist-in-Residence and retired from the position in 1993. He has also taught at the Bowdoin International Music Festival for over 40 years. He has been on the jury of numerous piano competitions during those years and has given recitals and master classes throughout the world. He has recorded works of Johannes Brahms for Spectrum Records and has edited French music for Éditions Salabert.
