Dr. Martha Shaw is the Director of Choirs at Reinhardt University in Waleska, GA where she directs the select Chamber Singers, the 100-voice Concert Choir, and also serves as Professor of Music. She teaches both graduate and undergraduate courses in choral literature, choral methods, and conducting. A frequently sought-after choral clinician, she is the founding director of the world-renowned Spivey Hall Children's Choir & Tour Choir in Atlanta. She previously held the Lester Harbin Chair of Conducting at Shorter University in Rome, Georgia, where she was Professor of Music, Director of Choral Activities, and Conductor of the Shorter College Chorale,.

Reinhardt University

Dr. Shaw became the director of choral activities at Reinhardt University in the fall of 2012 . In her first semester there, she founded the Reinhardt Chamber Singers which is an auditioned ensemble composed of 40 voices. This ensemble is composed primarily of music majors. She also conducts the 100-voice Concert Choir, which includes a variety of music majors and non-majors.

Shorter College Chorale

As Director of Choral Activities at Shorter College, Shaw directed the Shorter Chorale for several years. Founded in 1968, the Chorale is considered one of the finest collegiate choral ensembles in the southeastern United States and has performed at Carnegie Hall. The Shorter College Chorale recorded the nationally-released CD, A Savior from on High, in 2008.

The 2007-2008 Chorale season included a tour of Italy, with performances at St. Peter’s Basilica in Vatican City.

In 2009, The Shorter Chorale recorded a second CD, "Beautiful River", a collection of hymns and anthems. The following January, The Chorale was invited to sing at the 2010 Georgia Music Educators Association Convention in Savannah, Georgia.

The Shorter Chorale's 2010-11 program included Ralph Vaughan Williams' "Mass in G minor", the music of Spain, and traditional American Spirituals in preparation for their international tour of Spain in May 2011.

The Chorale performed a concert at the Southern Division ACDA conference in Winston-Salem, North Carolina in Spring 2012.

Spivey Hall Children's Choir

Dr. Shaw is the founding director of the Spivey Hall Children's Choir & Tour Choir Program in Atlanta and serves as its Artistic Director and Conductor. Under her direction, the Choir often sings on NPR and has performed at numerous state, regional, and national conventions, including conferences of GMEA, ACDA, Orff-Schulwerk, and Chorus America. The choir tours annually, and has performed all over the country and the world. Past international tours include: Sweden, Austria, Scotland, China, Canada, England,Spain.

The choir has recorded four CDs: Homeland, Christmas with Spivey Hall Children's Choir, I'll Be Seeing You, and "Circles of Motion".

Education

Shaw studied with Larry Wyatt at the University of South Carolina earning her Doctor of Musical Arts degree in conducting. She also served on the faculty of USC. She earned her Master of Science degree in music education from the University of Tennessee where she studied with Donald Neuen. She received her undergraduate degree in music education from Shorter College.
