Marshwood High School is a school in York County, Maine, United States. It serves the towns of Eliot and South Berwick, and is located near the border between them. It has been at its current location at 260 Dow Highway (Route 236) in South Berwick since September 1999, when it was moved from its previous location in Eliot. The current site is about 10 miles (16 km) from Portsmouth, New Hampshire, and Kittery, Maine.

Contents

The school's mascot is the Hawk. The original mascot was the Aristocrats, but quickly changed when a dirty joke involving aristocrats became popular in the late 1970s.

The school offers a variety of varsity athletics. It currently holds the state championship conference title in football and is defending its girls' alpine skiing conference title and state champions title.

The school has won multiple SMAA championships in recent years. In 2010-2011 season boys' alpine skiing, wrestling, and cheering all won SMAA. In the 2011-2012 school year the school's field hockey team placed second in Class A.

The vice principal is Larry Bird, not to be confused with the basketball player.

History

In 1966, the towns of Eliot and South Berwick joined to form MSAD #35, and a new high school was built on Depot Road in Eliot. The high school was relocated to Rte. 236 in South Berwick in 2000.
