Mark Salvatus (born 22 January 1980) is a Filipino contemporary artist living and working between Manila, Philippines, and Osaka, Japan. His work deals with familiar objects, chance encounters, and everyday politics, using media such as drawings, installations, photography, video, and street art in interactive and participatory projects. His works are heavily influenced by the urban landscape, internet, advertising, and popular culture.

Education

In a white room, is a brown miniature raft with black container at the bottom with red thread, red low chair and a tall black chair, with a white container, green beer cases and blue umbrella with crunch written on on.

Salvatus graduated cum laude from the University of Santo Tomas College of Fine Arts and Design, Manila, with a degree in advertising arts (2003). He was awarded the Benavidez Outstanding Student Achievement Award in the same year.

Exhibitions

He was the recipient of the Thirteen Artists Award from the Cultural Center of the Philippines (2012); Sovereign-Schoeni Art Prize, Hong Kong; and the Ateneo Art Award (2010). His illustrated book Mama's House, Papa's House was awarded the Alcala Illustrator's Prize given by the Philippine Board for Books for the Young (2004). He also won a Manila Critics Circle National Book Award for The Cat Painter (2006).

Projects

Salvatus co-founded Pilipinas Street Plan in 2006, a community of street artists based in Manila. In 2012 he co-founded 98B COLLABoratory, a multi-disciplinary site for creative sharing, discussion, and collaboration located in Escolta, Manila.
