Mark Rothman (born in Bronx, New York) is a noted and credited writer best known for having been involved with the creation and production of Laverne and Shirley. He was also the head writer and show runner of numerous other shows including Happy Days and The Odd Couple. He was co-creator, co-executive producer, and a writer for the 1977 situation comedy Busting Loose and the 1978 situation comedy The Ted Knight Show. He also composed the theme song for Busting Loose.

He has written many screenplays and several plays, two of them, The Wearing of the Greens, and Who Wants Fame?, are very popular and have been well received by audiences and critics from coast-to-coast. He currently splits his time between residences in Malibu, Connecticut, and Detroit. He enjoys producing and directing his work. In the spring of 2008, he appeared in the title role of a new musical, The Brain From Planet X in Los Angeles, where he and the show received unanimous raves. He has two books which can be found at Amazon Kindle: "Show Runner", and "Show Runner Two". Both are collections of autobiographical essays.

On May 5, 2015, Rothman revealed that he suffered a stroke on May 2; while his most recent post on May 16 was typed by someone else, he noted that he was "recuperating to some extent."
