Biography and education

From an early age, Kemp was interested in photography, and began shooting using a camera that belonged to his father during his teen years. He graduated from Oxford Brookes and Milpark Business School. Kemp also attended the Institute of Management, South Africa and earned a diploma in Business and Production Management. He also earned a Business and Administration diploma from the Institute of Commercial Management in the United Kingdom. Marius studied at the National College of Photography where he worked mainly on photo shoots and corporate events.

Personal

Growing up in South Africa, Marius was able to see all of the diversity that the country had to offer first hand. The diversity in Africa allowed Kemp to have unique experiences that have contributed to his fulfilled life. The work that he has done for the past two decades in the global arena has taught him many things; but most importantly, that communication is essential to cross any divide. Kemp is driven and inventive with an unyielding background in Operations, Logistics, Location-Based and Fleet Management Services, Projects and Information Systems. Before Kemp began working with Umthunzi Images, he worked for Crosscape Express, SA Electronic Tracking Systems LTD and Global Telematics/Thales.

His passion for photography is visible in his collection of photographs taken in Southern Africa. In this extensive body of work, he captures the diverse beauty that the Continent is known for. Kemp photographs people in Southern Africa as well as the colourful continent itself. He chose to be a freelance photographer to enjoy his freedom to select which events and projects he wanted to document without the burden of specific obligations and alliances which go with working for a specific agency. Working as a freelance photographer, Kemp is never forced to live up to specific standards, and he loves having the ability to be creative on his own. He is inspired by Ansel Adams for landscape photography, David Drebin for his beautiful cityscapes and women, and David DuChemin for his insight and travel photography. Kemp has looked up to these legends for as long as he can remember.

Work

From March 2010 up until now, Kemp has owned and worked for Umthunzi Images, capturing special events and projects as well as product photography for corporate clients. As the consultant of Umthunzi Images, Kemp captures many social and commercial events ranging from corporate parties to sporting events. Some of the commercial photography that Kemp is involved includes photographing particular products, press events and architectural photography requirements. Kemp also produces marketing photographs for web sites and show displays such as banners and brochures. Specifically, Kemp specialises in Model Portfolios, Abstracts and Fine Arts, and Portraits for individuals or families. His talent shows in his expertise of shadow and light as well as contours and curves of the people he photographs.

He does freelance work in his spare time for whoever may need his services (such as weddings, magazine assignments and specialised projects). Kemp also photographs much of his creative work in his own studio, where he shoots model portfolios, family portraits and boudoir sessions.

Marius Kemp's thesis following his MBA reading was "The inhibitor effect of human assets in the dissemination of business intelligence." As the owner and consultant of Umthunzi Images, Kemp offers his service by investigating all Fleet Management and Location-Based challenges that take place in the Transport, Logistics, and Security Industries.

Marius Kemp has not always worked for Umthunzi Images. From March 2006 until March 2010, he was the SA Electronic Tracking Systems LTD Operations Manager.
