Marine Cano

Cano attended California State University Dominguez Hills where he received a bachelor's degree in Physical Education.

In 1976, Cano signed with the Los Angeles Skyhawks of the American Soccer League. There, he was the backup to Brian Parkinson for the ASL champions. In 1978, he moved to the Fort Lauderdale Strikers of the North American Soccer League. In 1979, he returned to the ASL with the California Sunshine. In 1980, he played for the Cleveland Cobras in the ASL. That fall, he signed with the Cleveland Force in the Major Indoor Soccer League. In 1985, he played for the independent Los Angeles United. In 1986, he moved to the Los Angeles Heat of the Western Soccer Alliance. He played for the Heat as a backup to David Vanole in 1987, then left the league. In 1990, he returned to the Heat, now playing in the American Professional Soccer League. He permanently retired from playing following that season.

Coach

Even before retiring from playing in 1990, Cano has had an extensive coaching career. In 1984, Cano became the head coach of the Cal State Dominguez Hills women’s soccer team. He led them to the NCAA Division II national championship in 1991. In 1987, he served as the head coach for the Los Angeles Heat in the Western Soccer Alliance. In 1993, he moved to UC Irvine as the women's soccer team. He resigned on December 31, 2005 having compiled a 111-94-27 in his twelve seasons as coach. He then moved to Soka University where he coaches today. He has also been goalkeeping coach for the Los Angeles Galaxy. He is director of "Mr. Soccer" youth Soccer camps.
