Margaritis Schinas (born July 28, 1962 in Thessaloniki, Greece) is the current Chief Spokesperson of the European Commission, and a Deputy Director-General at the Commission's DG Communication. He has in his life been a politician and European Union bureaucrat. He served as a Member of the European Parliament for the New Democracy Party of Greece from 2007 to 2009. In 2010, he was appointed Deputy Director of the Bureau of European Policy Advisers by Commission President José Manuel Barroso.

He has worked at the European Commission since 1990 and held a number of senior posts, including as chef de cabinet for the Cypriot Commissioner, Markos Kyprianou, from 2004 to 2007. In April 2013 he was appointed Director at the Commission's Directorate General for Economic and Financial Affairs.

Schinas' first degree, was an LLB at the Law School of University of Thessaloniki (1985).

He went on to receive a Diploma of Advanced European Studies (D.A.E.S) in European Public Administration from the College of Europe in Bruges, Belgium in 1986, and a further MSc. in Public Administration and Policy at the London School of Economics and Political Sciences in 1987.
