Margaret mcmurdo retiring from presidency of appeals court


Margaret Anne McMurdo AC (born 30 August 1954) is the former president of the Queensland Court of Appeal. Appointed on 30 July 1998, she was the first female president of an appellate court in Australia. She resigned effective 24 March 2017 aftermore than 18 years as a justice on the Court of Appeal.

McMurdo was educated at Brisbane Girls Grammar School, Gregory Terrace (1967–1971) and then at the University of Queensland. She graduated with a Bachelor of Laws in 1975.

Career

She was admitted as a barrister in 1976.

In 1991, she was the first woman to be appointed to the bench of the District Court of Queensland.
