Academic work

Aponte's work focuses on global leadership and cross-cultural communication. He has also written extensively about the current political, social and business environment in Latin America. His articles have appeared in numerous international media outlets including the BBC, The Guardian, World Policy Journal, Folha de S.Paulo and International Policy Digest.

Aponte studied languages at the University of Paris (Sorbonne Nouvelle) and international business at Nicholls State University in Louisiana. He obtained a PhD at the Graduate Center of the City University of New York in 2008.

He has taught in several universities in the United States and the United Kingdom including New York University, The City University of New York, Princeton University, the University of London, the University of Surrey, Aston University and University College London. He currently teaches at Saint Mary's College of California.

Theatre work

Aponte's theatre work focuses on performance, playwriting and production. He has appeared in various plays in both New York and London. He started performing in the late 90s, in the Off-Off Broadway theatre scene of New York City.

Aponte trained in Uta Hagen's HB Studio and at Lee Strasberg's Theatre Institute in Manhattan. He is the founder of the theatre company Actors of the World. He was nominated (in the 'Best Actor in an Ensemble' category) by the New York Latin ACE Awards for his performance of Garcin in the play Huis Clos (A Puerta Cerrada) by Jean-Paul Sartre in 2005.

His film work includes an appearance in Martin Scorsese's Hugo, an adaptation of the book The Invention of Hugo Cabret, which premiered worldwide in November 2011. In recent years, he has collaborated extensively with theatre director George Eugeniou at Theatro Technis in London.
