Marcia Frederick (born January 4, 1963) is a retired American gymnast who became the first American woman to win a gold medal at the World Gymnastics Championships. She won gold in the uneven parallel bars in Strasbourg, France in 1978. After having been named to the 1980 Olympic team, she was the favorite for a medal In Moscow but missed due to a boycott led by the United States. She instead won vault gold at a meet in Hartford, Connecticut, that served as an alternate Olympics for countries affected by the boycott.
