Creativity and Personality Type: Tools for Understanding and Inspiring the Many Voices of Creativity

Marci segal on imagination

Marci Segal is recognized for contributions to the fields of creativity and psychology, and for founding World Creativity and Innovation Day, April 21. Her work frees people's thinking so they can create new futures. She advocates honoring individual differences and leveraging commonalities: personal and interpersonal elements, behaviors, systems, process, and tools and methods for engagement when new thinking is on the agenda.

Contents

Studies in Creativity influence Marci's framework, along with Carl Jung's model of perception, judgment, and archetypes, Linda Berens' work on Temperament and Interaction Styles, Barry Oshry's systems work and Foursight. She has consulted with many leading organizations including NASA, the Ontario Public Service, PHD Canada, Ricoh and Bosch.

Marci began studying creativity in 1977 at the International Center for Studies in Creativity at the State University of New York College at Buffalo. She holds the program's first accredited minor and their master's degree in Creativity and Change Leadership. She is the first Canadian to hold this paired designation. Her undergraduate major was in cultural anthropology. Marci was driven to study creativity after working for the Canadian federal government. Her goal was to achieve a masters degree in creative studies, then return to Canada to help the civil service become a better place to work.

Marci has been a senior faculty member at the Creative Problem Solving Institute (1980 - 2010), a MBTI ® instrument qualifying instructor (1993–2006) and was sessional faculty at Canada's Ontario College of Art and Design (2006-7). She sat on the board of the American Creativity Association and was a member of and presenter at the World Future Society for many years. She has spoken worldwide at other conferences and events, including TedXCanmore in 2015..

Marci founded World Creativity and Innovation Day, April 21 (WCID) in 2001 which grew to become World Creativity and Innovation Week April 15 – 21 (WCIW) in 2006. This observance reaches people, businesses, organizations, families, communities, schools, and governments in over 50 countries. WCID and WCIW are not commercial, volunteer occurrences, and no one pays to participate. Like Mother's Day, each celebrates in their way, relevant to their context. [1]

The purpose of the observance is to remind and encourage people to make room for and to grow capacity to generate new ideas, make new decisions, take new actions and achieve new outcomes that make the world a better place and make one's place in the world better too; and to celebrate that they can. It also brings to mind that new ideas need a soft place to land, and practices to welcome new thinking are encouraged and taught. Because people often put creative thinking on the back-burner; WCIW and WCID bring it forward to mind and action, uniting people worldwide in their unique and shared creativeness.

Marci was born and raised in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, and moved to Canmore, Alberta, in 2014.
