Marcel Holmberg (born October 27, 1981, Santiago, Chile) is a founding partner of PWD Architecture, an international architecture and urban design office based in Beijing, with offices in Xi’An, London and Santiago. He has been partner and design director of PWD ARCHITECTURE since 2014 where he won his first competition; Dali Creative Area in China. He is presently collaborating with French architecture office AREP Ville in China leading the design of major architecture, urban and transit oriented developments (TOD) throughout Asia and participating in architecture competitions Internationally.

Career

As a RIBA / ICA Chartered Architect he worked with international architect Ole Scheeren in Beijing where he notably notably he took a lead role in the design development of the showcase and operational headquarters for Guardian Auction house in Beijing’s historic core. He was also involved in the development of large scale mixed-use projects, including: Angkasa Raya a 268m tall hotel, office and residential building in Kuala Lumpur; Axel Springer Media Headquarters in Berlin; a Chinese insurance headquarters tower in Beijing CBD, a residential development in Shenzhen, East London cultural hub Olympicopolis and MahaNakhon tower in Bangkok.

He began work life early in his second year of university working with renowned architects Marco Polidura, Iñaki Volante and Javier Bize designing diverse typologies and scales of architecture and participating as a permanent assistant teacher for university workshops.

Personal Background

Born a descendant of a Swedish-German family from the south of Chile he is fluent in English and Spanish; competent in German and Mandarin.

He spent his formative years in Santiago, Chile and Oakland, California.
