Early life

Mezvinsky was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and grew up attending a Conservative Jewish synagogue. His parents are both former Democratic members of the U.S. House of Representatives. His father is Edward Mezvinsky (b. 1937), who embezzled more than $10 million from people via both a Ponzi scheme and the advance-fee scams, and was found guilty of fraud in 2001. His mother is Marjorie Margolies (b. 1942), who was a TV reporter and represented Pennsylvania’s 13th District from 1993 to 1995. They declared bankruptcy shortly before Mezvinsky’s conviction and divorced.
Mezvinsky first met Chelsea Clinton as a teenager at a 1993 Democratic political retreat in Hilton Head, South Carolina. He graduated from Stanford University in 2000, where he received a B.A. in religious studies and philosophy. While a student at Stanford in 1997, he remained close friends with Clinton, and as she began looking at colleges, he showed her around the campus. He later received an M.A. in politics, philosophy and economics from University of Oxford. Mezvinsky began dating Clinton in 2005.
Business career

Subsequent to his graduations, he worked for eight years as an investment banker at Goldman Sachs before leaving to join a private equity firm, but later quit. In 2011, he co-founded a Manhattan-based hedge fund firm, Eaglevale Partners, with two longtime partners, Bennett Grau and Mark Mallon. In May 2016, The New York Times reported that the Eaglevale Hellenic Opportunity Fund is said to have lost nearly 90 percent of its value, [which equated to a 90% loss to investors] and sources say it will be shutting down. Emails discovered as part of Wikileaks' release of the "Podesta emails" seemed to indicate that Mezvinsky had used his ties to the Clinton family to obtain investors for his hedge fund through Clinton Foundation events.
Personal life

In July 2010, Mezvinsky married Chelsea Clinton in an interfaith ceremony in Rhinebeck, New York. The senior Clintons and Mezvinskys were friends in the 1990s; their children met on a Renaissance Weekend retreat in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina. They first were reported to be a couple in 2005 and became engaged over Thanksgiving weekend in 2009. He comes from a family of nine children.
Following their wedding, the couple lived for three years in New York City's Gramercy Park neighborhood, later purchasing a condominium in the NoMad area of Manhattan for $10.5 million. Clinton and Mezvinsky have a daughter, Charlotte, who was born on September 26, 2014, and a son, Aidan, who was born on June 18, 2016. The family currently lives in the nearby Flatiron District.
