Marad Beach

Marad Beach is a slum area of Kozhikode city in India. The beach is located behind Kallayi railway station.

The Marad Road starts from Kallayi town and passes through Chakkum Kadavu village and Payyanakkal village. Marad and Kayyadithode villages are adjascent to each other. Gotheeshwaram temple is an important place of worship here. Marad Beach is a small village near Kallayi in Kozhikode. The beach is basically a fishing village with little development and no tourist facilities. The people of Marad live in slum like conditions and ecnonomic activity is restricted fishing related areas in spite of the proximity to Kozhikode city. Marad filled the headlines of newspapers in 2003 because of the massacre of eight Hindus by Muslim extremists.

The Panniyankara ROB

A Road Overbridge is being constructed at Panniyankara on the national highway. Once this ROB is completed, Marad will start tasting the fruits of development.

Marad Massacre

In 2003, eight Hindus were killed by Muslim fanatics in this beach. In 2003, eight Hindus and one Muslim were killed in a communal clash organized by Muslim fanatics of Kozhikde district. In 2009, a special court sentenced 62 Muslims for life imprisonment. Most of the convicts belonged to Indian Union Muslim League and People's Democratic Party and National Development Front.

Deep Conspiracy

Kerala BJP president V Muraleedharan wanted initiation of a case against senior Muslim League leader MC Mayin Haji who had prior knowledge of massacre plan, according to the Judicial Commission.In 2012, Kerala High Court observed that there was a deep conspiracy behind the incident.
