2014 General Election

The ANC and the collapsing COPE lost much support in the 2014 Election to the new party, EFF. The DA increased its vote at COPE's expense, while losing other votes back to VF+.

2009 General Election

The ANC lost some support in the 2009 Election as a new party, COPE, entered the political field. The VF+ also lost some votes, mainly to the DA.

In the 2004 General Election the Municipality voted overwhelmingly ANC, with most whites voting DA or the VF+

Municipal Elections

The municipal council consists of fifteen members elected by mixed-member proportional representation. Eight are elected by first-past-the-post voting in eight wards, while the remaining seven are chosen from party lists so that the total number of party representatives is proportional to the number of votes received. In the election of 18 May 2011 the African National Congress (ANC) won a majority of twelve seats on the council.
