Mamta Goenka is an Indian motivational speaker, breast cancer support coach, and an aide to post-operation breast cancer patients. She worked as a cancer volunteer for the past 15 years at Tata Memorial Hospital, Mumbai. A cancer survivor herself, she recognized the need of proper coaching for post-operative patients on mental as well as emotional grounds. She is married to Pawan Kumar Goenka who is the Managing Director of Mahindra & Mahindra Limited (M&M)

Education

Goenka attended the Tata Parsi High School – Nagpur and finished schooling in the year 1973, she received her Bachelors in Home Science also from Nagpur University in the year 1976. She pursued her Masters in Nutrition, Nagpur University and completed it in the year 1979, after which she began preparing for her diploma in Dietetics, Nagpur University in the year 1980.She was a rank holder in the state of Maharashtra for her Diploma in Dietetics, 1980.

Health issues and motivation

Goenka has been diagnosed with breast cancer twice.

Her one-on-one sessions started with patients contacting her and coming to her house. Over time, Mamta collaborated with the hospital(Tata Memorial Hospital) and its staff and started formal post-op care sessions at the hospital to give patients the answers, confidence and information they needed, and became the liaison between them and the physicians.

Post breast cancer, Goenka also suffered from lymphedema, a disorder that affects some of the patients operated on. Again, she employed taught about managing lymphedema to others going through this ordeal.

Working with health care workers and corporate donors, she has launched 25 lymphedema workshops throughout India, beginning with one in Indore, Madhya Pradesh in 2008.

She has been invited to speak at doctor’s conferences and as a panelist with oncologists on the topic of breast cancer post-op care and lymphedema management. She is also a motivational speaker.
