Makhdum Karim or Karim ul-Makhdum was an Islamic preacher from Johor (in present-day Malaysia). In the late 14th century CE, he was a trader who brought Islam to the Philippines, in year 1380 CE. He established a mosque in Simunul Island, Tawi Tawi, Southern Philippines, known as Sheik Karimal Makdum Mosque which is the oldest mosque in the country.

Commemoration
Upon his arrival in the Philippines, he established a mosque on Simunul Island, Tawi-Tawi. This event is commemorated yearly in the southern Philippines, marking the anniversary of Makhdum Karim's arrival. The celebration includes prayers honoring the spread of Islam in the Philippines.
In 2005, Governor of Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao Zaldy Ampatuan has appealed to the Philippine government, Saudi Arabia and other Muslim countries to rehabilitate the mosque and develop it as a religious tourist spot in southern Philippines.
