The athletic programs at Maize High School are known as the Eagles and compete in the 5A division, the second largest division in the state of Kansas according to the Kansas State High School Activities Association. Throughout its history, Maize has won eighteen state championships in various sports.

Academics
Maize High School operates on block schedule, which includes four periods and a break for lunch. Science teacher Stan Bergkamp was awarded the Milken Family Foundation National Educator Award and first year teacher Diane Moser was named a Herizon Award winner by the Kansas State Department of Education.
As of 2009, Maize High has received fifteen Achievement of Excellence Awards in the subjects of reading, writing, science, and mathematics.
