Inflorescences bear up to 10 flowers which are fragrant and cream-coloured. The specific epithet crassipes is from the Latin meaning "thick foot or stalk", referring to the fruit stalk. Its habitat is swamps and forests from sea-level to 1,000 metres (3,300 ft) altitude. M. crassipes is found in Sumatra and Borneo.
