M. V. Pylee is an Indian scholar, educationist and management guru, considered by many as the father of management education in Kerala and an authority on Constitutional Law. He was awarded Padmabhushan in 2006 by Government of India for his contributions to the fields pf education and management.

Biography

Moolamattom Varkey Pylee was born in Pulinkunnoo on 5 October 1922. He had extensive education starting at Pulinkunnoo St. Joseph's Higher Secondary School and now holds degrees such as M. A. (Luck). D. Litt. (Pat) and LL. M. (Harvard). He is also honoured with D. Litt. from Banares Hindu University.

His wife, Elsy Pylee, died in 2004. The couple had three children, two daughters and one son. Prof. Pylee resides in Kalamassery, in Ernakulam.

An award has been instituted by Cochin University of Science and Technology, M. V. Pylee Award, given once in three years, carrying a cash prize of Rs 200,000, a memento and citation for excellence in teaching and research and contribution to academic community.

Cochin University of Science and Technology, St. Berchman's College, Changanacherry, St. Joseph's School Pulimkunnu, St. Agnus College, Mangalore, Kerala Higher Education Trust, Good Samaritan project, India and others have benefitted from the Trust endowments.

Akshardham Award, Gandhi Nagar, Gujarat, for "Unique achievements in the field of Management".

Nedumkunnam Award by the Kerala History Congress, 1991 for the best History Book in Malayalam.

Distinguished Author Award at the Golden Jubilee Celebration of S. Chand and Company, Publishers, New Delhi, 1989.

Distinguished Leadership Award for Outstanding Service to teaching and Management Profession (1990).

Management Leadership Award at the All India Seminar on Professional Management held at Calicut, Kerala – 1990.

Honorary Membership, Kerala Management Association – 1985.

Honorary Membership, Kerala State Productivity Council – 1985.

Management Leadership Award – KMA – 1986.

Vangala Narasimagaru Memorial Gold Medal (1984) for securing First class First in M.A. Degree Examination, Lucknow University.
