A Lyot stop is an optic stop, invented by French astronomer Bernard Lyot, that reduces the amount of flare caused by diffraction of other stops and baffles in optical systems.

Lyot Stop is located at the image of the objective formed by a field lens, with an aperture slightly smaller than the objective image. Example of applications can be found in Ref.
