Lumding Agartala Railway is a section of Indian Railways under Lumding railway division of Northeast Frontier Railway. It is a single broad gauge 1,676 mm (5 ft 6 in) track from Lumding city in Nagaon District of Assam state to Agartala in West Tripura district of Tripura state. The line connects the Agartala from Assam and other part of India. The 87 kilometres (54 mi) segment from Manu to Agartala became operational in 2008. The segment from Agartala to Sabroom via Udaipur, Tripura may become operational in 2014.

Further Extension

The track from Agartala to Akhaura Akhaura Laksam Chittagong line in Bangladesh is under construction. It may be opened for traffic in the year 2015. The line will reduce the distance between Kolkata and Agartala by 1000 km, from current about 1500 km via Guwahati. The line between Udaipur and Agartala is going to start shortly as CRS inpection is done.

Current services

One express train used to run between Lumding and Agartala daily. This route was meter gauge but was converted to 1676 mm (5 ft 6 in) broad gauge under project unigauge and freight services have resumed.
