Low Moor railway station was a station situated between Bradford Interchange and Halifax on the Caldervale Line, located close to Low Moor, an area to the south of Bradford, West Yorkshire, England. It also served the Spen Valley Line to Cleckheaton.

The Caldervale Line remains open, but Low Moor station was closed in June 1965 (at the same time as the rest of Spen Valley route) and subsequently demolished. The land was later used for the Transperience museum which was open briefly in the 1990s before closing.

Re-opening plans

Metro had long-term plans to re-open the station by 2012. Originally, lack of capacity in the existing Caldervale Line timetable meant that the station was put on hold, but this was addressed with a new timetable introduced in December 2009 and trackwork improvements at Mill Lane Junction outside of Bradford Interchange. However this has now been put back until into 2015 with Metro saying that the additional delay is due to the extra expense incurred from changes in engineering safety requirements for building platforms on a curve.

Delays have been compounded further by the construction of the car park over suspected disused mine workings. Exhaustive surveys initially could not verify their precise locations, but various mine shafts were later confirmed under the station site.

It was announced in June 2009 that £5.5 million funding was allocated for the station and that a detailed design plan and business case would be developed. There were completed in May 2010, confirming the station's location on Cleckheaton Road (off New Works Road).

When completed the station will provide:

  • Two trains an hour in both directions
  • 100 space Park & Ride with dedicated Blue Badge Holder spaces
  • CCTV
  • Accessible platforms
  • Passenger information displays and public address system
  • Waiting shelters
  • Direct access to the Spen Valley Greenway
  • Following the general election in May 2010 and the Comprehensive Spending Review announcement in autumn 2010 a further assessment of the West Yorkshire Strategic Programme of Schemes confirmed that the new station at Low Moor remained a key priority within the transport aspirations of West Yorkshire.

Public consultation for the scheme was held 18 and 19 November 2011.

WYITA released funding for the station in March 2014 and submitted a planning application to Bradford Council.

The project was expected to be completed by the spring of 2016 but problems with disused mine workings first delayed the opening to summer 2016, and then to May 2017.
